Fuji X-T1 in the hands of a woman and a Boudoir Photographer
I have recently met the magic of the new Fuji X-T1 and the Fuji completely new way of connecting with photographers onto a level that no camera company had done before and I fell in love. The Fuji X-T1 is the result of a concerted effort to produce true magic and give total freedom to professional photographers to be creative without hassle. Effortlessly. Efficiently. Easily.
The new Fuji X-T1 is a beautiful tool that can create nothing less than pure love.
I used to be a Canon shooter, but I am officially not anymore. Now I am a totally Fuji lover and supporter.
The beautiful new Fuji X-T1
It took me the presentation of the new Fuji X-T1 to decide to buy it without trying it before. From the very beginning I had the feeling that would have been the right camera for me, and I was not mistaken. I have been using the new Fuji X-T1 for weeks now and it feels amazing.
From the immediate moment I took Fuji X-T1 out of its box it was love.
My first trial with the new Fuji was with a boudoir client. Very risky move I know, but when I feel something is right, I can become quite reckless and go with the flow.
I was so right. It felt like I had been using the new Fuji XT-1 for years, and I instinctively knew where everything was. That tells you a lot on how much Fuji has been listening to us professionals to make things easier for us.
After a couple of hours of shooting, I had no backache, no pain on my shoulders, nothing. I felt as good and as satisfied as after drinking a great glass of wine. It did not feel like working at all and my client was at ease much quicker because my camera was as little as a fence instead of a big wall.
The great features of the new Fuji X-T1
The new Fuji X-T1 maintains the Fuji typical cool retro look, but that is the least of its beauty.
It is pleasantly slim and light, but it still feels concrete and secure in your hands.
It is masculine looking with a feminine twist (the sexy curve on the right hand side) that makes it very appealing to both sexes without losing neither dignity nor style.
The anti slippery grip has a nice tactile feel to it whilst you can securely handle the Fuji X-T1 even without strap attached.
All the buttons are at fingers distance and it took me less than 1 hour to getting used to where things are, which is amazing to me.
The only way of describing the Fuji X-T1 autofocus is super fast. It is hard to believe how incredibly brilliant this autofocus is after having used the Canon 5D Mark II for many years.
As Carlo and Faby and boudoir photographers, backlighting is our signature, however flattering, it is technically challenging to focus in that light condition. To use that technique you need to have a lot of practice under your belt, and having a good camera with a good autofocus is a great help.
Talking about focusing, the big difference in the way the new Fuji X-T1 focuses is by looking for areas of contrast in light to get it right, not to look for lines as with a Canon camera. It is a different approach that is worth getting adjusted to, because when you do, the Fuji X-T1 autofocus will be a big game changer.
The viewfinder is huge, sharp and beautiful. I can see almost better than with my eyes and it is so bright that it makes me feel happy even in a cloudy day.
The tilting screen is an option I use only when I have to roll onto the floor to shoot odd low angles and it proves to be incredibly handy for my back. I still tend to forget about this feature and make the fool out of myself by flattening my stomach to the floor, but I feel still a bit resistant in looking at my subject from the screen at the back of the camera. Sometimes I can be totally old school…
Another fabulous advantage of the Fuji X-T1 is that there are many buttons that are totally customisable that makes it even more uniquely yours.
The only downside I found so far is that the Fuji battery life is not great and when you realise you are running low, it is already too late and the camera just shuts down merciless. This issue is easily sorted by having some spare batteries always with you at all times.
I could honestly go on and on, but the moral of the story is that I have not touched a Canon camera since buying my new Fuji T-X1. I have not even looked at it. I have ditched Canon forever and I just know that I will never look back again. I Love love love my Fuji X-T1.
